What the evidence supports
Schwabe and Wolf report human experimental evidence that stress can promote habit-based responding, and their later review describes stress-related shifts between multiple memory and control systems from more deliberate toward more habitual action.
What it does not establish
This does not mean stress makes habitual behavior inevitable, that every familiar response under pressure is a habit, or that reflection disappears.
Context
The Working Map explicitly warns against deterministic wording. The public claim therefore uses ‘can bias’ rather than ‘retrieves’ or ‘will revert.’
